Love @ first sight

1960s Big Band era:

One Friday night  I  stopped in at the local social dance in the city with a girlfriend,  needing some relaxation after a work seminar  this was the place to go. As I waltzed around the dance floor to the special music of a 36 piece band I happened to glance up and there he was.

Standing in the doorway,  collar turned up against the cold evening, dressed in his trench-coat and looking swerve was the man of my dreams. Our eyes locked and as I spun past we smiled.

I took my seat at the end of the dance bracket and after refusing another dance with my waltz partner  excitedly told Gaye I had seen the man I would marry, this was the statement from a girl who had her choice of boyfriends and didn’t want a serious attachment at the young age of 19 and just wanted to enjoy life, maybe travel to Europe as this seemed to be the “right of passage” to growing up.

Next thing He was standing in front of me. He didn’t speak, just looked at me, moved his eye’s toward the dance floor and then I was in his arms. We danced the rest of the night together, hardly talking, who needed speech, I floated around the dance floor.

For 36 wonderful years this man held my heart.

My First Love

Even though it was a blustery December evening, the entrance doors were wide open, in I stepped out of the cold, into a brightly lit area, that was full of people, the air a buzz with conversations & the excitement of being there.

I made my way through the crowd to where I always felt at home, to where I’d been so many times before, but this time it was different, this time when I looked, she was there, I’d never seen her before, she instantly stood out of the crowd, I couldn’t keep my eyes off her. Although she was surrounded by others that were equally as attractive & had their own magnetism, she simply looked magnificent, I knew right away that I was not going to leave that place without her.

A guy standing near her saw me and came over, he smiled and said “Can I help you mate?” I paused, I looked back at her, she was perfect, she was the ideal height, she had amazing curves, perfectly drawn in at the middle, a little larger up top than on the bottom, I was completely bowled over, I knew I had to have her.

I turned back to him, but only momentarily, before I was drawn back to her again, giving the knowing nod in her direction I said “Yeah I think you can.” He turned to look at her then back at me, he smiled, raised an eyebrow and gave an affirming nod, then proceeded to tell me all about her, as we walked over to her, how great she was, how she wouldn’t let me down and how happy I would be with her. He left me with her while he made all the necessary arrangements. It all happened so fast, within minutes everything was done and I was leaving with her.

He was right of course, she is incredible, we’ve had so much fun together, she really is perfect for me. Although I have to admit and I do feel somewhat guilty, but I have been back to where I met her, and I’ve since had another two, but I’ll never forget her, you never forget you first true love.

High heel drama

I was in awe of her from day one. Moment one actually. Robyn was the most talented actress I had ever laid eyes on. She was also the most beautiful. Not just outwardly either. Many of the other actors behaved like prima donnas, treating us, the stage hands like something they’d steppped in while walking their dog at the local park. Robyn was different. In every way. That’s what made her stand out to me.

The first time I saw her I was in the wings as she rehearsed her lines onstage. I was captivated by the way she moved, her long arms giving meaning to her words. And that glorious red hair which tumbled down her back. As she brushed past me on the way to her dressing room I exhaled, I hadn’t noticed I’d been holding my breath.

Luckily the reviews were better than good, so the run was extended. I had a whole summer holiday to just keep breathing her in. I wasn’t back to university until October, two long months away.

It was my last week at the theatre and I was beginning to panic. I had to find a way to connect with this woman before it was time for both of us to move on. The strength of my feelings for her left me paralysed by fear. Sunday morning came, the run through before the final matinee. There she was walking up the stairs just ahead of me so close I could feel the momentum of her skirt. The sound of her heels on the boards rang in my ears. I couldn’t take my eyes off her legs. So I watched what happened next in slow motion. In an instant one of her heels gave way contorting her ankle and she fell backwards into my arms. Shaken her green eyes stared into mine as she mouthed a thank you. I didn’t let her go. We sat there eyes locked for a long moment. I can’t believe what I said in the next breath, but I’m glad I did.

“Can I be there to catch you always?”

And the rest, as they say is history.
